The creative portrait of
Nelli Andriasian – the founder, the art chief and Chief-Conductor of the Armenian chamber chorus of the State philharmonic society of Armenia She is also the founder of the chamber chorus of the Perm state philharmonic society (nowadays - "The State Ural chamber chorus"), the Chorus of the Tula State University and the chorus - workshop of conductors-chorusmeisters in Moscow. She was born in Rostov-upon-Don on February 16, 1926. Her father – Andriasov Arshak Osipovich (1893-1948). Her mother – Bedjanova Maria Feodorovna (1898-1974). She has graduated the Moscow State conservatory by P.I.Chaikovski. Her teachers were: in conducting – Bagrjanovski Michail Michailovich – the conductor of the opera theatre of Sergei Ivanovich Zimin, Vladimir Pavlovich Stepanov - main chorusmeister of the theatre by Kirov and the main chorusmeister Bolshoi Theatre; in chorus transaction - Sveshnikov Aleksandr Vasilevich - great Russian conductor; in a choral class – Sokolov Vladislav Genadievich; in choral arrangement – Ponomarkov Ivan Platonovich. Her diploma work were "The Dreams" of R.Shuman and the final scene from "The Orlean Virgin” of P.I.Chaikovski. After the graduation from the conservatory in 1952 Vladimir Pavlovich Stepanov has written a letter to Yerevan to Konstantin Solomonovich Sarajev with a recommendation for Andriasian as the art chief and conductor of capella of Radiocommittee of Armenia. Konstantin Solomonovich has accepted this recommendation and has made an official invitation, but the arisen hard circumstances in her family have made impossible the departure from Moscow to Yerevan. In the following - 1953 Iosif Aleksandrovich Michailovski, the art chief of the Tula State Chorus has invited Nelli Andriasian as a chorusmeister. 1,5 years of work in this chorus helped completely to form her creative individuality. Here, in Tula, simultaneously working in the Tula State Chorus, she has created and headed the first collective - chorus of the Tula State University. In Moscow the young conductor has organized and supervised over a number of amateur choruses, which always showed good creative results. In Moscow began her pedagogical activity. A school by name of October Revolution, then Moscow State Choral School and MGZPI (musical pedagogical institute). At this time a skeleton of adherents began to form round the conductor from her pupils. Gradually this circle was extended and an idea of creation of a chamber chorus with them appeared. This original idea was born owing to Nelli Andriasian. And the essence of the idea was that in the chorus more than 50% of the actors would be choral conductors (certainly, with good vocal characteristics), each of which had a working chorusmeister program and conducted with her. "Pure" vocalists, at the same time, must execute as solists. Stability of internal mutual relations was based on practically indisputable authority Nelli Andriasian and on the disinterested friendly relations of participants. This collective was called Chorus - Conductor's Workshop. With small interruptions the work of his chorus lated about twenty years – until 1975, when the main skeleton of the chorus has leaved with their conductor for Perm to Found the chamber chorus of the Perm State Philharmonic Society.In repertoir of this chorus simultaneously with westerneuropean and Russian classics a significant place was occupied by the music of modern Soviet composers. Repeatedly chorus recorded various programs on All-Union Radio and acted with concerts. Many outstanding musicians – A.Sveshnikov, A.Jurlov, A.Aleksandrov, V.Balashov, A.Lenski, K.Khachaturian, I.Kozlovski, P.Savintsev and many others gave a high appreciation to its artistic and professional level. The common requests of the leading Soviet musicians to the Ministry of Culture of the USSR for giving to the chorus an official status and creation on the base of it a state collective were repeated several times. In 1973 under the initiation of Soyuz of the composers of the USSR was held a concert of the chorus with a program from products of the modern Soviet composers, specially selected by the choral commission of Soyuz of the composers for this event in order to persuade the musical public that the chorus can solve the most hard creative and professional problems. And, at last to decide its further destiny. The unanimous enthusiastic recalls, the support of the idea of K.Khachatrian and A.Lenski (the chairman of the choral commission of Soyuz of the composers of the USSR) - to convert the chorus as executive collective of Soyuz of the Composers of the USSR, its approval by the choral commission and many outstanding composers, as it is not paradoxical, were not sufficient.The formal version was the insolubility of the problem of financial maintenance. Instead of it the Ministry of Culture of the USSR made an alternative offer - to create (" from zero ") a chamber chorus in Perm (Central Ural) at the State philharmonic society. For this object immediately and without problems were found finances. The idea of creation of a professional chamber chorus in a city, where there is no a conservatory (or other high musical educational establishments), and there is a quiet absence of choice of musicians with high professional qualification, was a pure adventure. The time for shaping of the new collective (especially in such heavy conditions) was determined for one month, when the existing state standard was a half year, - an inexplicable short time. The first concert program was forced to be held also in unreal short time, in transgression to all professional norms. In spite of all these not clear conditions, which were not objectively stipulated, Nelli Andriasian with his group of creative colleagues accepted this completely frank call, which can be determined as a provocation in order to discredit a talented, but at the same time, obstinate conductor (a rather familiar picture!). The chorus was complected in the indicated term, the first concert-program has shown to the state commission a completely improbable result - instead of one program four programs were prepared and represented (the experience of Chorus - Conductor's Workshop, permitting to apply a superintensive mode of assimilation of a new material, was used).
The ministerial commission was compelled to recognize a brilliant level and complexity of the prepared programs and to agree with the readiness of the collective for professional activity in full capacity. The first concerts of the chorus were held on May 15,16 in 1975 in Perm. They have passed with a great success (look the recalls ( look the recalls in the press) in the press). All the city spoke about the birth of the third Perm miracle (two first - Perm wooden sculpture and Perm ballet). Further performances, concerts followed, that is to say a normal artistic life began to flow. The authority of the chorus very soon overgrew the regional frameworks and a problem on performances of the chorus in Moscow and other largest cultural centres of the country arose against the Ministry of Culture of the USSR. But something ununderstandable began at the same time.Instead of the state awards, deserved in such cases, ranks (which instead of Nelli Andriasian received another chorus meister after her departure) and other differences, to N.Andriasian benalf of the chief of frames of the Ministry L.Iljina an ultimatum was frankly expressed: or full stopt any initiatives, or else... It isn`t easy to guess, what a choice was made. And the result didn’t force to wait long. Working in Perm for 1,5 years, by creating a new professional collective of a maximum class, which exists and nowadays and has a title State Ural chamber chorus, Nelli Andriasian was compelled to return to Moscow and again to begin all at first. But the situation as in the point of view of the Ministry of Culture was already other. That’s why the ministry offered to the conductor only a job of a second conductor in a state chorus or teaching in concervatory, which was a tactical trick, because the main aim was the exception of Nelli Andriasian from the Big musical life. All this happened on a hum noise of the protests of a number of leading musicians of country and figures of culture, which as the decent people gave an actual evaluation to the occured events and named things as the names. But, unfortunately, the real authority was against them. Probably, in the Ministry they thought, that they riched their aim - for long years the conductor was outside of concert arena. But the authority, which allow itself to be at a such low level, up to so mean and frank persecution of a creative person, can not exist for a long time. This is a fact of a moral disintegration of the whole society, which is concecrated. At last the processes of perestroyka began to rescue the common construction on which based the whole society, but the level of degradation was so high, that it only accelerated the disintegration of the country and changed the ruling system. From the very begining of the first symptoms of political liberalization Nelli Andriasian and its creative colleagues selected a new way of independent solutions of the all creative problems. As a priority they chose the direction of revival of the Armenian national culture (look section of our syte “ History of creation, the biografy"). She has decided to create in Moscow a new - national professional collective. Also she has found grateful and faithful allies benalf of the Native Land - Armenia and benalf of the people - Armenian people. But she addressed to already new Russia with the rare offer of creative cooperation and spiritual unification. It is thought, that it was the wisest and high-power answer to all, who were her friends and who were considered to be her enemies during all these years.
